Merry Christmas!

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
~Isaiah 9:6~

"And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
Luke 2:1-14

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."
John 1:1-5

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:10-13

"Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all."
John 18:36-38

"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son."
Revelations 21:1-7

"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
Revelations 22:13-17

"He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus."
Revelations 22:20

Recent Happenings

Where to start! The past few months seemed to fly by at a dizzying speed. Our annual Thanksgiving Turkey pick up day went well. We were worried we might not have enough birds but the Lord provided and we had enough and then some. He always provides. I don't know why we worry:) We are outgrowing our four hour pick up window, we had a line of cars waiting to get in our drive way to park! The Lord has greatly grown our business since we started almost 10 years ago. We were blessed with lots of friends who came to help us that busy week. The mornings started early with morning chores, then after a delicious pancake breakfast by Mr. Jack, we got started with the actual processing around 7-7:30am. We butchered about 150, more of less per day. What awesome friends we have! (You know who you are:)
After the flurry of processing and pick up day we found ourselves swept up in a whirl of fun social activities. I (as well as the rest of my family) found myself with very frazzled nerves after the constant, go-go-go of the November calender:) It was so nice to get to kick back and relax, rest up and go to fun social events:) For Thanksgiving, most of our family was out of town so we got together with church family for a day of fun, fellowship and food:) It was great!
At the beginning of December I went up to help some dear friends of ours who just welcomed their ninth child into the world: little John David Furhmann:) I so enjoyed my stay with them and enjoyed the challenge (in an exhausting kind of way:) of semi-running the household while Mrs. Furhmann was recovering. I'm hoping to get some pictures up soon.
That's all for now,
God Bless!

The Lord is My Shepherd...

Hello all! It's been awhile since I last posted. I took a technology hiatus for a couple of months which I found to be most edifying. It allowed me to step back and reevaluate how I was spending my time, pin down time wasters and spend more time with the Lord in a more unhindered and less distracted way. I wouldn't trade that time for the world either. This past summer has been one of growth for our family on the whole and on the individual level as well. There seemed to be an unusual number of deaths; our dear uncle Bruce went to be with the Lord as well as a sweet lady from our church, both to cancer. Several others, a pastor, a missionary's wife, all of these instances proved to be a sobering reminder that man is as grass, here one day and gone the next. And in the midst of it all we passed the one year anniversary mark of my dear father's heart attack. We are so grateful that the Lord spared him to us! But I was reminded of the fleetingness of life. I found myself a bundle of fear, clinging desperately to my family lest they too should be taken away. Sometimes when I was alone, I would cry miserably to myself, knowing that nothing I could do would keep my family together always. In the midst of my inner turmoil the Lord was gently working to unclasp my clutching fingers from frail humanity and clasp them firmly in His own strong everlasting hands, the nail-scarred ones that were pierced in love for me. During that time the Lord drew me to Himself and taught me to trust Him on a whole new intimate level. Our church family is currently going through a study on the book, "Heaven" by Randy Alcorn. And as a testament to God's faithfulness and the strength He gives His children; the study is being led by the man who lost his wife just two short months ago. It is amazing to see the joy in his face and in his tone as he is discussing and expounding on the wonders of heaven. He once remarked when the group was pondering a particular question regarding the subject, "I wish I could ask Becky about that, but I'll just have to wait" And to see my recently bereaved Aunt go on patiently, trusting the Lord to provide, not giving way to despair at the prospect of being a single mother with two young sons to raise alone. Yet not alone. Christ knows our frame, and He knows our pain. "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;... let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Heb. 4:15-16.
Truly the Lord is with us through the valley of the shadow.

Owl Trouble -from the FQF farmers notes

The Wilson family was gathering around the breakfast table one summer morning when Dad announced in a grave voice. "We are in a state of war."  We children glanced at each other in hushed surprise, envisions of a third world war flashed across my mind. "With who?" we clamored, all eyes turned to him expectantly. "With the owls," he said, and then his somber expression dissolved into one of amusement as we all laughed together.
"For the past few nights," he continued after the excitement had died down, "Owls have been easily attacking and eating our turkeys, and now they're going to tell all of their owl friends about the "All-you-can-eat" Turkey buffet at Full Quiver. So we have to stop them." A flurry of ideas and opinions were then offered, ranging from the absurd to the workable. We first took into consideration the following facts.

1. Owls are a protected species. (Scratch the midnight hunting expedition approach)

2. Owls are afraid of unpredictable moving objects. (Cue the laughable: "We could get one of those motion activated Santa Clause’s that sing and dance and put it on top of the turkey shelter!"  or "one of those blow up balloon-man thingy's they have to catch people's attention at car lots!".)

3. Owls are afraid of dogs.

We realized amid the flood of ingenuity that we must respect our neighbor’s entitlement to a restful night sleep. (Scratch the singing-Santa idea) After narrowing down the possibilities we decided on installing some homemade circular boards that we would attach to the corners of the turkey shelters. These would blow in any slight breeze and frighten away our midnight predators.
We also decided to use our farm dog, "Bess". Now Bess is getting on up there in years and hates to be posted on night-guard duty, so Dad, being the compassionate and resourceful farmer that he is, decided to record her barking. After he got the recordings he multiplied the barking and then burned it onto a CD. He then bought a cheap CD player and timed the recording to come on periodically to keep up the delusion that there was an actual dog on duty, but also turned the volume down enough not to bother the neighbors :)
We spent the day putting our ideas into actuality and then waited eagerly for the next day to come so we  could see how our inventions had worked. The next morning we happily found all of our turkeys safe and sound and seemingly none the worse for having been serenaded by a dog barking CD all night. Needless to say, we were immensely pleased. Necessity is truly the mother of invention. :)

Happenings

We  have officially moved into the busy season here on the farm. The animal population is exploding!:) Lots of little piglets, goat kids, bunnies and even kittens. Farmers markets start this Saturday. We are planning on doing two this year. Mom and Becca will take one and Maddie, and I (Morgan) the other.

One of the things we're planning for and looking forward to is our Annual Memorial Day Shindig that we host at our farm. It seems to grow with each passing year;)

A couple weeks back, Dad hosted a special mens meeting in honor of William's 13th Birthday. It was a time of sharing, encouraging and exhorting from the men to William. I know he was blessed by it. We are so proud of the responsible young man he is becoming:) His rabbit business has really taken off and he is managing it very well. For the past couple of years he has had the desire to start a business where he can start saving for his future, Dad has been helping him in this new entrepreneurial enterprise and it is going well.

That is a little of what has been happening here at Full Quiver lately.

Young Ladies Retreat Pictures

A few weeks back Katie and I were blessed to be able to attend a Young Ladies Retreat, hosted by a good friend of ours. It was a very encouraging retreat and the Lord really used it to teach me and convict me. The retreat was held at Mountain Top Youth Camp on Pinnacle mountain in N.C Here are a few pictures (Taken by Katie) from our trip (You can click on the pictures to make them bigger)....
