Another Predator
This morning we had another predator of a different species. We opened up the pullet brooder and found a black snack curled up in one of the waters, a bulge is his long slender body told that one of the poor chicks had been his breakfast! What excitement! Will ran for the machete, we dumped the snake out in a large area of dirt and wielded the long knife over his head waiting for a good aim. The snake curled up, though keeping his head erect, turning and following us as we tried to get behind him. Finally, Maddie held him down with a board while I chopped off his head. Then Maddie cut open his stomach and sure enough there was a chick inside! It made a very interesting science "project" anyways:)

Oh my, poor chicken. Circle of life for sure, except that the snake didn't get to finish his breakfast!

Once we had eggs constantly disappearing from a nest, and we guessed that it was a snake getting them. So we put a golf ball in the nest, and it disappeared. Several weeks later, we found a snake near the house that we decided to kill, and we noticed that it looked weird and sick. It also had a bulge. We shot it and when we cut it open, we found the golf ball! :)
That's a good idea to use a golf ball! We'll have to remember that one......:)

p.s After I had already posted this, my mom saw the pictures and she was rather dismayed that I had posted them, she wasn't sure everyone would think they were "neat":)
